Day 66

Really windy but warm. Everyone comes out of the works in good shape. Accountant tells me that we need money because all our seconds and thirds at Turfway don't amount to much because the purses suck. Tell me something I don't know! Major stud farm gets "confused" about a deal for a foal share. We will move on to a different farm that thinks a bit more clearly for that mare. Was looking over the sales results of the Fasig-Tipton two year old sale earlier in the week and can't help but think that this years yearling sales will be a buyers paradise. Pinhookers and commercial breeders are getting killed and either wont have massive bankrolls to buy horses or have any incentive to set unrealistic reserves.

One of our owners claimed a horse via another trainer at an out of town track. We had been tracking this horse for awhile and I am looking forward to working with her.

  1. Hi chuck, I some how surfed upon your blog while researching horse ownership. your blog really goy my attention since i always wondered what a trainers life is like. I am a huge racing fan.

I was bitten by the bug when i was a young kid.
My Grandparents lived 2 blocks from Aqueduct and my Uncle worked at the track as an exercise rider. He actually rode about 70 races as an apprentice jockey when he was 16-17 yrs old this is in the late 70's-early 80's but he eventually got to big to race. He mostly worked for Jimmy Toner. He eventually left the track and for the last 25 years he has been working as a bridge painter here in NY and i followed in his footsteps for the last 20 yrs(im only 6 yrs younger than him) We always talk about racing and we are eventually going to buy a horse and possibly start a partnership amongst family and friends.
i go down to Gulfstream every winter.(love gulfstream)
And i have to agree 100% there isnt any supertrainers. i know you might have to bight your tongue a little bit but i dont have too. i remember being at gulfstream around 4-5 years ago and Mott&Bailey combo were winning everything im not saying Bailey had anything to do with the doping part, but Mott was claiming and winning at a ridicules rate. I mean talk about trying to insult our intelligence!!! he would claim horses that showed poor past performance and win first time off the claim.. and another that comes on the top of my list is Todd Pletcher!! these are just 2 of many!!!
Just like the homeruns fell off in baseball over the last 2 years. hopefully we will see these "supertrainers" Win % rate drop now that some feathers have ruffled.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know i look forward to reading your blog for the whole year.
